Reyns Gems

My apologies to those who missed my posts over the past week, as I was in the process of installing internet in my new apartment.
And now to the question everybody is asking – can the Nuggets survive without Melo?
Yes they can.
First off, the timing of this injury could not be at a better time. I know that sounds strange, but think about it. The Nuggets play their next four games at home and six of the next seven. Adapting without your star player is much easier to do at home. Also, with the All-Star game approaching, Carmelo will get the three to four weeks needed and could possibly stall another week to the All-Star game. This is a great thing. It would give Melo an additional week without games to rest, all the while saving him for the stretch run. Remember he played all summer in China, so the rest is much welcomed.
Secondly, the Nuggets have done a terrific job over the past few years building this team. I know, I was unhappy too when they dealt Camby, but look at them now. J.R. Smith is just as good of a scorer as Melo. The only difference is consistency. With Melo out, Smith will get free reign to take over Denver’s top scoring spot. The past month he’s been simply brilliant and with added minutes and confidence, he should dominate the scoring column.
Linas Kleiza also needs to get going. I think he’s been a bit of a disappointment this year. Every NBA analyst seems to love him and yes he’s filled to the brim with potential, but he needs to find more consistency no matter the minutes.
I also expect Nene to explode during this Melo-less run. He’s having a phenomenal year so far, yet no one appears to notice outside Denver. He’s the primary reason Denver dealt Camby in the offseason. His low post scoring is much needed, especially when you are without your top perimeter scorer. At least half the games without Carmelo, Nene will post double doubles, with half of those twenty or more points.
Thirdly, Chauncey Billups will further prove why the Nuggets traded for him. Nuggets fans are already impressed with Billups, but it’s time he takes it to EVEN another level. Billups is best when his back is against the wall and nobody gives him faith. The 2004 NBA Finals ring a bell? I’m not just talking scoring here. Billups will get guys involved and impose a more balanced attack. And when the game is on the line, none other than Mr. Big Shot will assume duties.
So my response – No Melo, No Problem.
Relax Denver fans, the Nuggets will be fine.
I think people will be satisfied if the Nuggets win half of their games without Melo, but I am predicting a .600 percent win ratio without Carmelo.
