King James' Arrival in Denver Makes for an interesting Nuggets & Cavs Matchup

King James appears to have his sights set on a new destination

The King is in town.Forgive me if I'm not prepared to bow down and 'hail the almighty.'

Call me a hater, call me whatever.

I’m sick of the media infatuation with Lebron and all the predictions of where he’ll end up in two years.

I’m ready to see the Nuggets silence all the hype. I’m ready to shake Charles Barkley’s hand and thank him for speaking out, saying exactly what I was thinking.

First off Lebron is an amazing talent – an athlete that is doing things and dominating his sport at an age no one has ever seen before. The thought of matching him up against Kenyon (last year’s playoff defensive assignment vs. Kobe), Dahntay Jones, or J.R. Smith down right scares me.

The fact of the matter is even against this year’s defensive minded Nugs, King James might damn well be on his way to 50 before the end of the night. But a win is all I want.

Since Carmelo and Lebron joined the league in 2003, the anticipated two game a year match-up between the Nuggets and Cavs was compared to past legendary match-ups (Magic vs. Bird come to mind).

Fast forward to the present day, and the head-to-head meeting hasn’t exactly lived up to the hype. It’s been a rather one sided affair for Melo and the Nuggets.

But…

In November, Lebron made a fool of the Nuggets on national television, leading the Cavs to a dominating victory over Denver.

Now the rematch between the up-and-coming Cavs and the reborn Nuggets is worthy of a prime time Friday slot on the national stage. The Nugs must prove they can win a big game on national TV since acquiring Billups and the Cavs must prove…well…that Lebron can shut up and play ball.

I’m sorry, but no professional athlete, no matter how good or powerful – should have sway over where he ends up on the free agent market…TWO YEARS FROM NOW!

Does Lebron forget he’s playing on the second best team in the East? Does he forget all the Cavs have done for him, including what at the moment, appears to be a brilliant move for Mo Williams?

Rather Lebron appears to have fun playing with the media, never suggesting, but never denying the possibility of ending up in such places as (gulp) New York in two seasons. Just the thought of any star athlete, much less Lebron, wanting to go to New York makes me sick. At the moment, there cannot possibly be one viable basketball reason for why you would skip town to play for the Knicks. I’m just sorry.

Unfortunately, money appears the only thing King James truly cares about. Not world championships (something he has a shot at) and not an MVP Trophy (might win anyways). No King James only cares about money.

I’m not pointing the finger solely at James. Remember, Kobe also suggested that he would skip the NBA for a European contract if the price was right.

In the great debate of: Lebron, Melo, or Wade – the debate seems to be settled at the moment with Lebron. You would be crazy not to take him. But I salute Melo for completely pulling a 360 this season, buying into George Karl’s philosophy, and playing his best all around season so far (even with lows in scoring). Oh yeah and representing the third best team in the West at the moment. You can take King James, I’ll take Melo.

He wants the cash, Melo wants the ring.
