The East was a perfect win for the seeding committee. We have the top four seeds colliding (the only part of my bracket that is healthy). Other than a scare to Tennessee by Butler, the others have arrived here in fairly dominating fashion.
North Carolina has posted a margin of victory of 35 in the first two rounds, Washington State 25 and Louisville 28. That's cruising to most of us.
The East is a perfect bracket and as such very difficult to predict what might happen. You can't pick an upset because there really aren't any. Predicting the favorite is also fraught with peril.
For instance, North Carolina has given up more points than Washington State has scored in any game in the tournament. Couple this with WSU's stifling of Notre Dame to the tune of allowing just 41 points. Can the unstoppable offense of Carolina overcome the unsurpassable defense of Washington State?
On the other side, Louisville is facing Tennessee. The Cardinals blew out a six seed by 30 points and the Volunteers escaped a seven seed in Butler. Honestly, I think Butler is a better team than Oklahoma but Louisville has a secret weapon...Rick Petino.
Petino's full court press and the shooters that he has will be more than a small problem for Tennessee. I don't give the Vols much hope in this match up.
My fearless prediction in the East ................... North Carolina.
Do not place wagers based on my predictions. Remember, I bet on Laser Disc over VCR. I also said that Apple was dead and I still have a few stock certificates for Enron. I'm just saying.
